V.I.E. PreTrade Software Engineer
Responsibilities
This is a unique opportunity to accelerate your career in financial technology by working on mission-critical trading systems that power real-time equity derivatives trading across global markets. You will obtain a hands-on experience in high-performant trading application, an overview of an industrial-grade Information System in the financial area, and an understanding of the equity derivatives trading on listed products, while working with modern technologies and developing integrations with them.
As a Software Engineer VIE you will work alongside experienced engineers in a supportive team environment where you will receive guidance, participate in code reviews, develop and improve your technical skills. You will have an opportunity to interact with Front Office traders, IT support teams, and various technical departments, broadening your understanding of enterprise software ecosystems beyond pure development.
This role offers a blend of technical challenge, business exposure and professional grows for junior developers ready to make their first steps in financial technology.
Our Application Development team is distributed over Paris (4 developers, 2 business analysts) and Frankfurt (10 developers, 5 business analysts). The team is responsible for development, maintenance and troubleshooting one of the most critical applications used by traders in charge of the Market Making of Société Générale Listed Derivatives products. This application is in charge of OTC (Over the Counter) trading, pricing, volatility fitting, risk monitoring, streaming of prices, electronic negotiation in large volumes and high frequency computation & overall data updates.
We are at the heart of an industrial pre-trade information system involving hundreds of servers, processes and applications interacting in real time to allow the business to stream live prices of about 700k financial instruments and to execute electronically up to 600k trades per day.
As a part of the Application Development team you will be in charge of maintaining, developing and improving components of the trading system, as well as tools used by the Application Development and DevOps teams.
Tasks and responsibilities:
* Develop, improve, maintain and decommission components of the trading application, as well as monitoring, development and analysis tools used by the team
* Provide effort estimations, commit on deadlines for delivery and respect them
* Investigate issues raised by team members, IT support or business users, alleviate and fix found errors
* Follow-up remediation actions to prevent future similar incidents (monitoring improvements, additional validations etc)
* Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving code quality
* Document implemented solutions and maintain technical documentation
* Communicate closely with software developers in the team, IT Support and business analysts
* Respect SG development processes, standards and rules

Profile required
PLEASE NOTE that since this program is primarily an international development program, candidates cannot apply to a VIE assignment in their own country of citizenship.

Studies:
- Graduate with a Master’s degree from a Technical University with a specialization in Software Engineering
Language skills:
- Fluent in English (written and spoken)
German is not required, but is a plus
Technical, operational & soft skills:
- Prior experience with Java programming language and object-oriented programming
Some experience working with relational and non-relational databases (e.g. Sybase ASE, PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
Familiarity with version control systems (Git) and basic knowledge of build tools (Maven)
Basic Linux command-line skills and shell scripting
Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies
Readiness to work in an international team distributed between Frankfurt and Paris, in a close cooperation with other developers and business users
The VIE assignment in a nutshell
This VIE in Frankfurt is to begin as soon as possible, but you need to plan 3 months between your application date and the beginning of your VIE assignment. It will last 12 months.
In case a visa is necessary, please make sure your passport is valid up to 6 months after the end of the VIE contract to not delay your departure.
