Financial Products Tax Advisory Specialist
Responsibilities
- Review U.S. tax provisions in ISDAs, GMSLAs, GMRAs, credit facilities, etc. and propose changes as appropriate, applying SG’s global policies in conjunction with US tax rules. Negotiate provisions with counterparties as necessary.
- Interested in developing knowledge regarding taxation of various financial products to provide U.S. tax advisory services to SG business lines and other SG stakeholders related to activities originating within and outside the United States. Liaise with external advisers as necessary to validate positions that lack clarity or involve advice or certain types of communications to clients.
- Collaborate with Tax Department senior staff in evaluating the U.S. tax implications of new products, risks and requirements of products proposed by the various business lines. In this regard, meet with front office personnel throughout the development process to provide advice and feedback with respect to these products. Update and expand tax policies (e.g., equity swaps policy, fixed income product policies). As part of our Global Tax commitment, monitor ongoing compliance with such policies and advice. Learn about the business strategies and goals of various desks. Summarize relevant tax issues for presentation to the head of tax.
- Represent SG with respect to various industry advocacy groups.
- Support Tax Team in evaluating complex tax issues including analysis and research related to restructurings and new business initiatives; analysis of new federal, state, and local tax laws, regulations, rulings, and procedures to determine their impact on the group; and assist in evaluating the tax effects of various proposals and planning ideas. Advise on and document positions affecting SG's own tax return, including by drafting legal memoranda.
- Work with the tax team in the development/implementation of strategies aimed at achieving tax efficiencies and maximizing the benefit of the Bank’s tax attributes.
- Coordinating with the Legal Department and relevant front office teams on U.S. tax matters.

DIVISION DESCRIPTION:
The mission of the Legal Department is to protect Societe Generale from legal, regulatory, reputational, and other risks, while at the same time assisting the business units in the achievement of their legitimate business interests by providing effective and quality legal services and advice, drafting and reviewing legal documentation and ensuring that business is conducted in compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The Legal Department is also responsible for (a) overseeing litigation, enforcement actions and investigations; (b) promoting strong and ethical legal culture within the Americas; and (c) identifying and mitigating legal risk arising. The members of the Canadian Legal Department work closely with the American Legal Department as we form the Americas Legal Group, and thereby collaborate on regional projects and strive to align on key principles, policies and procedures, and on cross-border business transactions and activities.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Must Have:
- JD Degree from a well-regarded 4-year college/university
- English fluency required, French fluency desired
- Tax Advisory experience working with law firm, accounting firm or major financial institution
- Specialization in the taxation of financial products
- Ability and willingness to learn new and unfamiliar areas of business
- Strong client service mentality
- Ability to prioritize tasks and effectively respond to and service demanding clients

COMPENSATION & SALARY RANGE:
Base salary range does not include overtime pay, bonus and/or other benefits, where applicable. Actual base salary offer will vary based on skills and experience.
