Trainee - Market Risk Framework Analyst
Responsibilities
The Risk Management function plays a vital role in Societe Generale Group sustainable development and profitability. Working in partnership with Finance and Business Units, we establish robust risk management frameworks, including risk appetite tolerances, as part of our second line of defence responsibilities.
The UK Risk ALM team, operates within the second line of defence of UK Market and Structural Risks Division. As part of the wider risk division, we focus on structural risks, specifically liquidity and market risks in the banking book within the Societe Generale UK Entities. Our team plays a crucial role in defining risk frameworks and independently analysing, challenging, and monitoring risk-taking activities to ensure effective strategy execution within the UK Entities’ risk appetite and Group's risk tolerance.
Our core missions include:
· Establishing the liquidity and market risk framework, including comprehensive risk monitoring metrics and limits.
· Ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and Group frameworks.
· Reviewing and validating structural risk assessment models to ensure fitness for purpose and compliance with model standards.
· Providing independent review and challenge of first line of defence risk assessments relating to liquidity and capital requirements in normal business operating conditions and stress (e.g. ILAAP, ICAAP, RRP, etc.).
We are seeking a talented Trainee to join our UK Risk ALM team, located in London.
The role operates within the UK regulatory environment, adhering to both Group frameworks and local regulatory requirements. This position offers unique exposure to structural risk management within a global banking organization.
The Trainee will gain hands-on experience in risk analysis, model validation, and regulatory regulations, while working alongside experienced professionals in our second line of defence division.
This role provides an opportunity to understand how risk management frameworks are developed and implemented, while contributing to the team's oversight of structural risks for Société Générale UK Entities.
Key Responsibilities
· Assist in back-testing various models used for structural risk assessments
· Support the development and production of monthly and quarterly risk reporting decks for structural risks
· Contribute to the development of tools for report aggregation and automation
· Support the team with internal and regulatory initiatives as needed
· Conduct risk analysis and monitor risk exposures
· Liaise with first line of defence to investigate and validate significant movements in risk metrics
Profile required
Required Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree required or ideally Master’s degree preferred.
· Academic background in statistics, finance, economics, or risk management preferred.
· Strong technical skills including:
o Python Programming
o Statistical programming languages
o Power BI / Tableau
o Excel (including VBA)
Required Skills & Competencies:
· Strong analytical capabilities with ability to handle complex data analysis.
· Excellent communication skills with ability to explain complex issues clearly and concisely.
· Strong collaborative skills and ability to work across multiple teams.
· Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
