Consultant Technical Lead - Oracle Performance Tuning
Responsibilities
Department / Project Overview – GTS/PAS/DRE Team provides 24 * 7 production database support to all the MKT/GDI & Retail Banking customers across SG group. Project includes incidents, requests & changes management on all the Retail applications hosted on multiple technologies including Oracle, MSSQL, Informix, DB2, Teradata & Open Source RDBMS (PostgreSQL, MongoDB & MYSQL). The project is responsible for the complete life cycle management of databases including Migrations, Upgrades etc. Additionally the project supports all the maintenance operations, performance analysis & troubleshooting, patching & DRP exercises.

- Cloud Database Administrator (Exadata Cloud Specialist)
Role Overview
The Expert Oracle Exadata Cloud DBA is responsible for architecting, administering, and optimizing large‑scale Oracle databases running on Oracle Exadata Cloud Service (ExaCS) and Exadata Cloud@Customer (ExaCC) platforms. This role requires advanced expertise in Exadata internals, cloud deployment patterns, performance tuning, automation, and high‑availability engineering.
The expert will lead Exadata cloud modernization initiatives, ensure top‑tier performance for mission‑critical workloads, and drive cloud architectural decisions across the enterprise. - Key Responsibilities
1. Exadata Cloud Architecture & Deployment - Architect, deploy, and manage Exadata Cloud Service (ExaCS) and Exadata Cloud@Customer (ExaCC) environments.
Configure compute nodes, cell servers, storage servers, and networking for optimal performance.
Plan and implement capacity, resource allocation, storage tiering, and cluster scaling.
Lead migrations from on‑prem Exadata or non-Exadata platforms to Exadata Cloud.
2. Advanced Oracle Database Administration (Exadata-Focused)- Install, configure, patch, and upgrade Oracle Database on Exadata (12c/19c/21c).
Administer Oracle RAC, ASM, ACFS, and Exadata-specific features (Smart Scan, Smart Flash Cache, Storage Indexes).
Manage Cloud tooling: OCI Console, dbaascli, exadbscli, and cloud automation scripts.
Implement robust backup, recovery, and DR using RMAN, OCI Backup, and Data Guard.
3. Exadata Performance Engineering & Optimization- Conduct in-depth performance diagnostics using:
- AWR, ASH, ADDM
Exadata Metrics, CellCLI, DCLI
OEM, OCI Monitoring
Optimize Smart Scan usage, Hybrid Columnar Compression (HCC), and I/O Resource Management (IORM).
Tune SQL/PLSQL workloads and optimize application interaction with Exadata hardware.
4. Cloud Automation, DevOps & Infrastructure as Code- Automate Exadata provisioning, patching, monitoring, and operational workflows using:
- Terraform (OCI)
Ansible
Python or Shell
Build CI/CD pipelines for database changes.
Integrate Exadata alerts and metrics with Prometheus, Grafana, OCI Monitoring, or OEM.
5. High Availability & Disaster Recovery (Exadata-Focused)- Design and manage High Availability (HA) and DR architectures using:
- RAC on Exadata
Active Data Guard
GoldenGate for real-time replication
Implement cross-region DR with ExaCS or ExaCC.
Lead DR drills, failover/failback testing, and infrastructure resilience validation.
6. Exadata Cloud Security & Compliance- Implement strong security controls:
- IAM policies and network segmentation
TDE and Key Management (OCI Vault/KMS)
Database auditing and isolation
Enforce compliance with enterprise policies and regulatory standards (GDPR, PCI-DSS, SOX).
7. Troubleshooting & Operational Excellence- Resolve performance degradations, kernel issues, storage anomalies, and RAC cluster instabilities.
Perform root cause analysis for critical incidents and implement long-term solutions.
Provide 24x7 on-call support for production Exadata Cloud environments.
8. Stakeholder Collaboration & Technical Leadership- Collaborate with cloud engineering, infrastructure, application, and security teams.
Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for Exadata Cloud strategy and governance.
Mentor junior DBAs and guide engineering teams on best practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Skills- 8–12+ years Oracle DBA experience with 4+ years on Exadata (Cloud or on-premise).
Expertise in Exadata Cloud Service, Exadata Cloud@Customer, Exadata X-series hardware.
Strong knowledge of RAC, ASM, ACFS, Data Guard, RMAN, GoldenGate.
Hands-on with CellCLI, DCLI, Exachk, and Exadata patching cycles.
Strong SQL/PLSQL tuning and workload optimization abilities.
Proficiency in Linux OS internals, networking, and shell scripting.
Experience with Terraform, Ansible, DevOps tooling (Git, Jenkins).
Familiarity with OCI networking, IAM, VCN, Vault, and Monitoring.
Preferred Certifications- Oracle Exadata Database Machine Specialist
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Architect Associate/Professional
Oracle OCP/OCM for 12c/19c
Autonomous Database Specialist
EducationBachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or related field.
Profile required
Years of Experience –15+ years and above
Qualification / Certification – Engineering graduate / MCA / Computer Science Graduate or PG. Any relevant RDBMS certification is an added advantage.
