Responsibilities

  • We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical Trainee to join the Equity Finance Trading team in Tokyo. 
     
  • This role is designed for an individual with strong technical skills—particularly in Python and VBA—and a deep curiosity for understanding Equity Finance products and internal trading applications. 
     
  • The Trainee will support the trading desk through data analysis, automation, and process improvement, while gaining comprehensive exposure to the business environment of Equity Finance (Stock Loan, Total Return Swaps, and Financing).
     
  • This is a non-trading, non–client facing role intended to build a strong foundation in our workflows, and analytics that support the front-office trading function.

Major Accountabilities/Principal Responsibilities:

1. Trading Desk Support (Non-Trading Activities Only)

  • Assist in daily workflow preparation and post-trade analysis for the Equity Finance desk, including Stock Loan, Total Return Swap (TRS), and financing-related processes.
  • Provide analytical support to traders by preparing reports, dashboards,
  • Monitor inventory-related data

 2. Application & Tools Development

  • Develop and maintain tools using Python and VBA to improve desk efficiency, automate manual processes, and enhance data quality.
  • Utilize internal SG (Société Générale) applications and ensure accuracy and integrity of data used by the desk.
  • Optimize internal tools, workflows, and system interfaces.

3. Business Understanding & Process Improvement

  • Build a deep understanding of Equity Finance business concepts, including:
    • Stock Lending & Borrowing
    • Total Return Swaps
    • Collateral management and financing
    • Inventory management
  • Identify opportunities to streamline or improve existing operational processes.
     

Profile required

Applicant Eligibility:

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree holders
  • Business level in English and Japanese
  • Employment contract duration: minimum 1 year, with the possibility of extension up to 2 years.
  • Frequency of work: 5 days per week (Mon-Fri).
  • Starting time: As soon as possible.

Key Skill Areas, knowledge & behavior Required:

Technical Skills

  • Strong programming proficiency in Python and VBA (required).
  • Ability to manipulate and analyze large datasets.
  • Experience with databases (SQL) is a plus.

Business Knowledge

  • Basic understanding of Equity Finance products and trading lifecycle.
  • Strong interest in stock loan, swaps, and equity financing markets.
  • Motivation to deepen understanding of front-office trading operations.

Analytical & Personal Skills

  • Excellent analytical mindset with strong problem‑solving capabilities.
  • High level of curiosity and willingness to learn complex concepts.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with traders and support teams.

  • English Language: Business Level 
  • French Language:  Not Required
  • Japanese Language: Business Level
