Intern Middle Office Support
Responsibilities
SGSS provides a full range of securities services that are adapted to the latest financial markets and regulatory trends: clearing services, custody and trustee services, retail custody services, liquidity management, fund administration and asset servicing, fund distribution and global issuer services.
The Middle Office Business Support sub-division supports both SGSS Switzerland clients and management across various topics.
The different topics are split between experts however tasks are allocated depending on the business needs.
Tasks and responsibilities:
We are looking for an AI savvy Intern / Working Student to support our Back Office Operations team in the daily processing of securities operations.
The role combines hands on learning in:
Corporate actions
Settlements and deliveries
Cash and collateral monitoring
Tax and reporting activities
…and a strong mandate to leverage AI & Microsoft 365 tools to make workflows more efficient, structured, and reliable
This internship is ideal for a student who enjoys operational work, has excellent attention to detail, and wants to experiment with AI in a real financial market context.
The ideal candidate is not expected to be a technical expert, but must be curious, fast learning, and comfortable experimenting with AI tools.
AI Supported Productivity & Process Enhancement
The intern will be encouraged — and expected — to use AI tools to support the team:
Use Microsoft Copilot to prepare summaries, draft reports, email templates, and operational checklists
Assist in creating AI enhanced templates for corporate actions events, settlement follow ups, claim logs, and cash reconciliations
Support process optimization through small automation ideas (Power Automate, Excel formulas/scripts, automated reminders)
Review AI outputs and provide structured, reliable feedback on accuracy, gaps, and improvement opportunities
Help document processes with AI assistance (procedure drafts, process maps, risk notes)
Operational Support (Under Supervision)
In this role, you’ll support the Back Office team with day-to-day processing and learn how core financial operations run. Your tasks may include:
Assisting with monitoring corporate actions and settlement activity
Helping track and resolve pending or failed trades
Maintaining documentation and preparing simple summaries (with AI tools)
Flagging issues early and escalating them to experienced team members
Contribution to Continuous Improvement
Use AI tools to help identify inefficiencies across Back Office processes
Draft improvement proposals and structured feedback for supervisors
Help maintain and update procedure documents and training material
Communication & Team Collaboration
Interact professionally with internal teams (Front Office, Compliance, Operations)
Provide concise updates on task progress and issues
Escalate uncertainties early
Contribute positively to team spirit and collaboration

Profile required
Studies & experience:
Enrolled in a Bachelor or Master program (Business, Finance, IT/Data, Engineering, or related fields)
Language skills:
English: C1
German or French languages are considered an advantage
Technical, operational & Soft skills:
Strong command of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
High comfort level with AI tools (Copilot, Chat-based assistants, automated templates)
Ability to transform unstructured data into clear outputs using AI
Nice to have: experience with Power Automate, Power BI, Python, or Excel macros and interest in financial processes, KYC/AML, operational risk
Curiosity to explore workflows and improve them through automation
Strong attention to detail and reliability
