Responsibilities

The Compliance Department at Société Générale oversees adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies across the firm’s banking and financial activities. It manages non‑compliance and reputational risks by acting as a second line of defense, supporting the business through risk assessment, advisory services, monitoring, training, and the implementation of robust compliance frameworks, while fostering a strong culture of compliance across the Group.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Act as an advisor to front office and other business line staff in relation to firm policy and relevant regulations
  • Oversee client due diligence processes for new and existing clients
  • Monitor client activity for AML purposes and escalate suspicious activity to management
  • Assemble/prepare monthly AML and Sanctions (Financial Crime) metrics reports by sourcing data from key business partners. Identify and implement opportunities to streamline metrics reporting. Assist other reporting needs
  • Perform key controls for the department
  • Assist in the preparation of answers to regulatory/audit requests, in the context of on-site examinations, investigations, enquiries, etc.
  • Lead the on-going implementation of Regulatory rules and changes
  • Assist in the development and delivery of training to all staff on various compliance topics
  • Draft and maintain departmental policies and procedures
  • Assist in the investigation of potential breach of rules/regulations and company policies
  • Ad-Hoc Projects (Manually Entered Policies, etc.)

Profile required

PLEASE NOTE that since this program is primarily an international development program, candidates cannot apply to a VIE assignment in their own country of citizenship.

Studies & experience:

  • Graduate with a Master degree from Business/Engineering School or University wit a specialization in Finance
  • Previous experience working with financial regulation would be appreciated
     

Language skills:

  • Fluent in English

Technical, operational & Soft skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Well-developed analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Motivated, diligent self-starter who is excited to learn and take on new challenges while supporting BAU frameworks.
  • Ability to work with large data sets across different systems and tools.
  • Capable of handling multiple, simultaneous, and various ad-hoc requests.
  • Ability to prioritize and work in a dynamic, deadline-focused environment. 
  • Proficient/Good command of MS Office
     

The VIE assignment in a nutshell
This VIE in Montreal is to begin December 1st, 2026, but you need to plan 3 months between your application date and the beginning of your VIE assignment. It will last 24 months.

The VIE is a specific contract, under Business France’s eligibility criteria, opened to candidates under 28 and from the member states of the European Economic Space. For further information (including your financial indemnities), please see Mon VIE-VIA Business France.
