Responsibilities

The ESG & Data Quality Analyst is responsible for sourcing, analyzing, validating, and maintaining high-quality ESG and financial data to support regulatory, risk, and sustainability-related initiatives. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret complex financial and environmental disclosures. The analyst will ensure data quality, investigate data issues, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and contribute to continuous improvement of data governance and data quality processes.

Specifically, you will be required to:

ESG & Financial Data Collection and Analysis

  • Source and review reliable public documentation, including Annual Reports, Sustainability Reports, ESG Reports, and regulatory disclosures from various jurisdictions.

  • Extract, validate, interpret, and maintain financial and ESG data, including:

    • Revenue

    • Debt

    • Total Assets

    • Sector Sales

    • CO₂ Emissions (Scope 1, 2, and 3)

    • Emission Intensity Metrics

    • Net-Zero and Decarbonization Targets

  • Analyze business activities and sector-specific information to distinguish between:

    • Own production versus resale activities

    • Upstream versus downstream operations

  • Review segment reporting and revenue breakdowns to identify in-scope activities and applicable ESG metrics.

  • Apply sound analytical judgment when interpreting complex, ambiguous, or incomplete disclosures.

Data Quality Management

  • Ensure completeness, consistency, accuracy, and freshness of ESG and financial data by prioritizing audited, consolidated, and most recent available information.

  • Perform data quality controls, reconciliations, and validation checks in accordance with established procedures and quality standards.

  • Assess data reliability and assign appropriate confidence levels based on source quality and available evidence.

  • Document methodologies, assumptions, rationale, and decision-making processes to maintain auditability and transparency.

  • Apply documented proxies and approximation methodologies when direct data is unavailable, ensuring clear communication of limitations and assumptions.

  • Monitor, analyze, and coordinate the resolution of data quality issues through the DQHub platform and other relevant governance tools.

  • Support root-cause analysis and remediation activities to improve overall data quality performance.

Stakeholder & Vendor Management

  • Liaise with internal stakeholders responsible for data quality investigations, issue analysis, and remediation activities.

  • Collaborate with external data providers and vendors, including Bloomberg, MSCI, Jupiter/Deepki, and other ESG data providers.

  • Support investigation and resolution of issues related to external data sourcing and data discrepancies.

  • Ensure alignment with stakeholders on corrective and preventive actions related to data quality issues.

Continuous Improvement & Governance

  • Identify opportunities to enhance data collection methodologies, data quality controls, and operational efficiency.

  • Contribute to the development, maintenance, and enhancement of procedures, operating guides, and data quality documentation.

  • Support data governance initiatives and promote best practices related to ESG and data quality management.

  • Maintain a risk-aware mindset and proactively identify potential data risks and control weaknesses.

Profile required

Technical & Analytical Skills

  • Basic understanding of financial statements, including:

    • Income Statement

    • Balance Sheet

    • Financial ratios and key performance indicators

  • Good understanding of ESG and environmental indicators, including:

    • Greenhouse Gas Emissions (Scope 1, 2, and 3)

    • Emissions Intensity

    • Net-Zero Commitments and Climate Targets

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Ability to assess incomplete or ambiguous information and make well-reasoned, documented decisions.

  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.

  • Structured and methodical approach to analysis and data management.

  • Experience in data quality management, controls, and remediation activities.

  • Fluent in English (written and spoken); French is a plus

Systems & Tools

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite:

    • Excel (intermediate level minimum)

    • Word

    • PowerPoint

  • Experience working with data quality, data governance, or issue management tools.

  • Familiarity with ESG and financial data providers such as Bloomberg, MSCI, Moody's, Deepki, or similar platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in ESG data management, sustainability reporting, financial data analysis, or data governance.

  • Knowledge of banking, financial services, and external market data ecosystems.

  • Understanding of ESG regulations, sustainability frameworks, and data governance principles.

  • Experience working with large datasets and data quality monitoring frameworks.
