Responsibilities

Job Summary: 

•    Provide strategic leadership and oversight of direct tax, indirect tax, transfer pricing compliance, and tax accounting across SG Mumbai Branch, SG India Securities Pvt. Ltd., SG GIFT City, SG Paris as a Foreign Portfolio Investor (FPI), and other entities governed by the SG India franchise.
•    Act as a senior tax advisor to the CFO and local/regional leadership, providing proactive guidance on tax risk, governance, and strategic decision-making.
•    Lead the management of contentious tax matters, assessments, litigation, inspections, and regulatory engagement with a focus on risk mitigation and effective resolution.
•    Ensure robust governance, timely escalation, and effective resolution of material tax matters in alignment with local, regional, and group expectations.

Main Responsibilities:

•    Oversee the timely, accurate, and controlled execution of all direct and indirect tax compliances, regulatory filings, and statutory reporting requirements across monthly, quarterly, and annual cycles.
•    Provide senior-level coordination with external advisors, auditors, tax authorities, and the regional tax function on assessments, audits, litigation, and complex advisory matters.
•    Lead strategic tax initiatives and projects, including Advance Pricing Agreement filings, documentation, stakeholder engagement, follow-up, and closure.
•    Anticipate and assess developments in direct and indirect tax laws, regulations, and judicial rulings, and drive timely implementation of applicable changes across relevant processes and controls.
•    Provide strategic tax advisory support to business and support functions for new products, transactions, operating models, and business initiatives.
•    Maintain executive-level visibility over key tax matters through structured trackers, dashboards, and monthly updates to the regional tax team.
•    Deliver high-quality tax planning, capacity monitoring, and exposure reporting to support Finance leadership in strategic and financial decision-making.
•    Advise the CFO and entity management on the tax and accounting implications of strategic transactions, governance matters, and business decisions.
•    Champion tax transformation initiatives, including automation and AI-enabled solutions, from business requirements and governance design through testing, parallel runs, implementation, and formal sign-off.
•    Drive continuous improvement by strengthening controls, reducing operational risk, improving efficiency, and enhancing the quality and scalability of tax processes.
•    Provide leadership and oversight for internal and external audits, inspections, reviews, management responses, and remediation activities.
•    Monitor, assess, and communicate significant tax developments to senior stakeholders through appropriate governance forums, committees, and management updates.
•    Lead the implementation of process, control, and system changes required to address evolving tax, regulatory, and governance requirements.
•    Represent the CFO and Finance Department in key organizational committees, governance forums, and senior-level deliberations.
•    Undertake additional strategic, governance, or leadership responsibilities assigned by entity or regional management.

In partnership with SEGL/FIS Regional Tax Department, Asia:
•    Ensure timely completion of tax risk assessments and declarations in TGM (Tax Global Tool), maintain senior-level oversight of risks logged in TGM, and drive appropriate updates to related tax provisions.
•    Oversee transfer pricing arrangements to ensure alignment with local business activities, value creation, and economic substance.
•    Lead engagement with tax authorities and oversee the management of tax inspections, queries, and related responses for relevant locations.
•    Provide senior tax input and governance oversight under the New Product and Service Committee (NPSC) process.
•    Actively contribute to monthly regional tax coordination meetings, bringing local insight, risk perspectives, and execution updates.
•    Exercise effective oversight and control over key tax projects, ensuring disciplined execution, stakeholder alignment, and timely delivery.
•    Drive timely and sustainable closure of recommendations arising from internal and external tax inspections.

Profile required

Academic Background (degree and major):  Chartered Accountant qualification preferred, supported by advanced professional exposure to taxation, finance, regulatory governance, or risk management frameworks relevant to banking and securities entities.

Relevant Working Experience in number of years: 

•    Minimum 10 years of progressive tax experience, including senior-level accountability for tax governance, advisory, compliance, and controversy management.
•    At least 5–7 years of relevant experience within banking, financial services, securities, capital markets, or similarly regulated financial institutions.

Skills & Competencies required:

•    Deep technical and practical knowledge of:
o    Income Tax Act
o    GST regulations
o    OECD Transfer Pricing Guidelines
o    DTAA provisions
o    Tax Accounting under IFRS/Ind AS

•    Proven experience engaging with:
o    Tax authorities
o    Statutory auditors
o    Regulatory inspections
o    Tax audits and assessments

Language Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to present complex tax matters clearly to senior stakeholders and governance forums.

Computer Skill: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to prepare executive-level analysis and presentations; working knowledge of ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or equivalent platforms.
