Responsibilities

About the team:

This team resides inside the Finance division of SG, with primary responsibilities being accountability and responsibility for the independent production and certification of the accounting quality Profit & Loss (P&L) and Balance Sheet. Balance sheet is reviewed via daily controls, and PnL is flashed daily by this team, but fully reconciled at month-end.

The team has both onshore and offshore components. The onshore team is in NY\Montreal (3 members), and performs management and over-site, while the offshore team (4 members) is located in Bangalore and handles most, but not all, of the production tasks. The on-shore team supervises the output of the off-shore team. The entire team is responsible for the control of accounting feeding and the reconciliation of the accounting data to back-office data. A specific focus of the team is the review & reconciliation of the Balance Sheet and Off-Balance Sheet balances held and reported by GBIS.

About the Role:

As a vital member of our global team, you will play a key role in enhancing our financial operations and ensuring compliance across various platforms. Your expertise will help us navigate the complexities of finance and risk management, contributing to our mission of delivering exceptional results. In this role, you will be responsible for the following duties:

·        Work transversally across the different Finance, Risk and Operations teams to assist in reconciling various control related issues.

·        Review of accounting balances, Risk Weighted Assets (RWA), Net Banking Income (NBI), cost of risk and the distribution of detailed schedules to the Business Line.

·        Working closely with the RISK department to review\post cost of risk levels.

·        Identify root causes of different control breaks/ issues and partner with other teams and business partners to put remedial solutions in place.

·        Represent the team as a subject matter expert on assorted project teams and initiatives. Working with the New Product Committee (NPC) and Accounting Policy teams.

·        Work closely with internal and external audit teams, furnishing data\answers up request, with follow-up to explain where necessary. 

·        Review daily commentary on breaks by the offshore team for accuracy.  Ensure that each break has an explanation, and if not, that it is actively being researched.

·        Maintain detailed off-line reconciliations for general ledger activity that is processed manually to the general ledger outside of the upstream product systems. Perform Balance Sheet & Off-Balance Sheet substantiation & sign-off.

·        Diagnose repetitive root causes that create control breaks & partner with technology and operations to implement preventative measures going forward.

·        Work closely with Operations to understand any possible impact to reported financial statements arising from outstanding control breaks around cash.

·        Manage small to medium scale project initiatives involving individuals from diverse groups.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Capital Markets Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of diverse Capital Markets with an emphasis on Loans and Bonds.
  • Analytical Acumen: Proven ability to analyze complex financial data and present findings clearly and effectively.
  • Understanding and working experience with IFRS, French and US GAAP, and the core differences in the accounting treatments as they relate to the role.
  • Financial Reconciliation Skills: Ability to reconcile various financial controls and reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Experience with reconciliations within a banking or financial institution.
  • Proactive Mindset: A problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced environment, able to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills, and the ability to pinpoint root cause issues & implement both tactical and strategic solutions.
  • Ability to manage large amounts of data and turn this date into meaningful analysis to respond to various inquiries. 
  • Ability to work as a team player and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 
  • Effective Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse teams and convey technical information clearly. 
  • Experience working with strict deadlines (i.e. month-end close process).

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of working experience in the Banking industry (ideally in Investment Banking)
  • Exposure to Finance & Accounting.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Transaction Banking activities, with previous relevant experience.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in business and/or Finance.

LANGUAGE: 

Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, is a requirement as the person in this position will need to collaborate regularly with colleagues and partners in the United States.
